This image is encoded as RGBA, even though that shouldn't be necessary. My tools told me that in its current form this could not be changed, so I took a closer look to figure out why. It turns out this image contains one errant column of useless transparent pixels on the far right, and one errant row of similarly useless transparent pixels at the very bottom. Cropping off the right-most column and bottom-most row of pixels makes the image completely opaque, allowing RGB encoding. This reduces the file size to 885 KB. This file is just poorly encoded. Without even changing encoding mode, this file can be losslessly optimized to 21 KB by a more intelligent encoder. I would like to replace the image with this improved version. Obscure2020 (talk) 22:43, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Allow overwriting of File:Hal Holbrook Our Town 1977.png

This file is encoded as 32-bits-per-pixel RGBA. This is rather dumb, because not only is this image completely opaque, it also only consists of shades of gray. This means I can reduce it to 8-bits-per-pixel Grayscale mode, resulting in a file that looks completely identical to the original, but is reduced to a file size of 6 MB. Allow overwriting of File:Concealed carry across USA by county.svg

This file recently became out of date with Louisiana's passage of SB 1 (constitutional carry) today, with effective date 7/4/24. I have the new version ready that changes Louisiana from "Shall issue" to "Shall-issue (Constitutional carry not yet in effect)." The new file changes Louisiana's counties from all blue to all magenta to do this. Hello. I would like to overwrite an image of the R-12 road sign used in Peru, a country in South America. I would like to create a more accurate SVG image using Adobe Illustrator from the Manual de Dispositivos de Control del Tránsito Automotor para Calles y Carreteras (see page 151 in the PDF file), developed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru, and upload it to Wikimedia. Thanks for reply. But the existing file eight now is used in dozens of articles and pages around different wikipedias. My new file is not completely different, they are very much similar since source is one. Please could you reconsider my request give me access to overwrite? I think the same, the file should not be overwritten with the new color version. @CentralAsianEditor you can use the User:CommonsDelinker/commands to replace the uses of the old version with the new one. GPSLeo (talk) 18:49, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Allow overwriting of File:Right_to_Carry,_timeline.gif

I'm trying to upload a new version of Right_to_Carry,_timeline.gif, because LA just changed its carry permit law, and I'm getting an error: "You attempted to overwrite a file that was not initially uploaded by you."

This file was originally uploaded by me, and I've updated it a dozen times, most recently in April of last year (when Nebraska changed its law.)

Can someone fix my permissions so that I can again upload updates of this file? I need to update the file to reflect LA's change, and I'm almost certain to need to update the file again, in a couple of weeks, when SC passes their law. Jdege (talk) 23:58, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello. I would like to overwrite an image of the R-34 road sign used in Peru, a country in South America. Unfortunately, I have to admit that overwriting existing files has become very limited and as a result, ordinary users here regularly submit requests for allowing overwriting a file. I recently decided to update the images of road signs in Peru and try to create a new article about these signs in Peru on Wikipedia. Jermboy27 has already tried to create a draft of this article using his own socketpuppets, but each time his attempts ended with his draft being removed. WWBM (talk) 16:49, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

The updated file slightly tweaks the background color and outline color, adds new roads and highways that were constructed and completed in the metro since then, and organizes all paths into folders for better organization and easier updating in SVG editors.
