How to make a request
Note
If you request the rollback-right, please read the how-to first. Admins and anyone with global rollback don't need to request rollback. License reviewers don't have to request the patrol flag. |

Autoconfirmed users don't have to request this flag. To see if you are autoconfirmed, please see your preferences. |
Autopatrol[edit]
See also: Autopatrolled users.
As a rough guideline, administrators usually require editors to have made more than 500 useful non-botlike edits, and to have been active in the last thirty days. Patrollers and License reviewers don't have to request this flag. |

- Good day. I request please grant me autopatrol rights, to be able to modify images about my country, just as I have been doing for more than 12 years on Wikimedia Commons, mainly maps and diagrams. -- David C. S. 01:43, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Not done I've seen your work on the Spanish Wikipedia and was going to grant you the right. However, I went to check your talk page and noticed that your most recent archive (dating just some months ago) is full of warnings, including those not to overwrite files, even so overwriting files with blatant copyvios. I would expect more from a long-tenured user like you. Unfortunately I cannot accept your request at this moment. --Bedivere (talk) 02:00, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

- I've been working on logos on the English Wikipedia, and occasionally on Commons for a long time . Sometimes I come across images that need basic maintenance (alignment, cropping, etc.), and it's inconvenient to request permission for small repetitive tasks. (example file:Bally_Logo.svg needs alignment). I understand that I lack an extensive edit history on commons, but I hope that the one on English Wikipedia can make up for that. Thank you. - Comment Your edit count is still rather low, and File:Vue à vol d'oiseau du Louvre agrandi par Charles V.jpg should have been uploaded as a new file rather than an overwrite. Abzeronow (talk) 18:06, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

- Registered since 2012. I've uploaded a few images in the past, but these days I just want to fix up some exposure and color balance on non-historical images using GIMP and G'MIC. For that I believe overwrite rights are justified. Thank you. Artoria2e5 contribs 05:10, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- You should not overwrite photos like on File:Chicken parm at a diner.jpg unless the original author agreed with it. GPSLeo (talk) 09:42, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- @GPSLeo: There were no pixels added artificially and the change should fall into the scope of "minor and uncontroversial color correction, noise reduction, perspective correction, etc." -- there's a human expectation of how a tomato-based sauce should look like under natural lighting and the camera is not producing it. I suppose I can rope Oknazevad in and ask for forgiveness? Artoria2e5 contribs 03:19, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- You do not know if the warm white balance was on purpose and editing existing JPG files always results in some more noise and loss due to compression. If the user is still active you should ask if you can overwrite the file or just upload as a new file. GPSLeo (talk) 12:59, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'd rather the file not be altered. I see no issues with the color of the sauce. It is correct for the actual way the sauce looks, suitably red. Not orange, as in the improper correction, which also makes the cheese too yellow. Yes, I should have been asked, because there is no issue with the original colors. I should know, I ate that very chicken parm immediately after the image was taken. oknazevad (talk) 02:04, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Artoria2e5: Will you be more careful about asking the original uploader before making color corrections in the future? Abzeronow (talk) 19:22, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

- Hello, I'am registered since 2011. A lot of editions and uploading photos about history and art, but these days I just want to fix up some exposure, contrast and color balance of old Wikipedia images for example from WW2 using my graphic software and I want to replace a lot of miniature photos to large ones in higher quality. - Changes to historic photos like File:Potsdam conference 1945-8.jpg or File:Wrzesien1939(HistoriaPolski str.371).jpg need to be uploaded as new files. GPSLeo (talk) 09:39, 3 February 2024 (UTC)

- ItsAxld (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information) Good day, I would like to obtain rights to upload MP3 files to Wikimedia. My plan is to upload municipal anthems and other relevant content for use on Wikimedia and Wikipedia. I am committed to ensuring the content I provide aligns with Wikimedia's licensing and copyright policies. Thank you so much ~~ ItsAxld (talk) 14:17, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. You're far too new to have rights to upload MP3 files. Sound recordings would either need to be public domain or freely licensed, and sound recordings have separate copyrights for the composition, the performance and the recording. So municipal anthems would need to be free in the composition, free in the performance, and free in the recording. Abzeronow (talk) 18:28, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

I would also like it so that I could reduce the code for some images with excessive amounts of code and clipping masks. Thank you. Strenatos (talk) 03:30, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- I have slight concerns about your understanding of copyright as there were two speedy deletions of flags you uploaded this month, as well as a DR with a flag that is still currently under copyright. Abzeronow (talk) 16:25, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

- Hello. I'd like to try to get the autopatrol rights, so I can do minor edits to images like removing frames from pictures like File:Noma (cancrum oris) case (PLoS).jpg. Also I'd like to upload some free music MP3s, such as the songs from [LiQWYD https://www.liqwydmusic.com] which is released under CC-BY 3.0 license. I know that I haven't reached the 500 edits threshold yet, but considering I've been (occasionally) uploading for some time now and never got any contribution reverted/deleted, I thought that I'll give it a shot. Thank you. --ShadyMedic (talk) 17:17, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Can you link me to where it's stated that LiQWD licenses music under CC-BY 3.0 because that's not what it says in the License section? Abzeronow (talk) 18:05, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there. I gotta be honest that I'm a bit confused now. I uploaded Night Out, assuming the licence in the description of this YouTube video is correct. But what's written on [1] seems more like a BY-NC licence. I don't know that much about licences, what is the the correct continuation from here? ShadyMedic (talk) 19:44, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- You are correct that the YouTube link claims a CC license, but I cannot find an example of a Creative Commons license at the website either currently or using the Wayback Machine. In order for us to accept a CC license, the license has to be explicitly stated from the copyright holder, and the YouTube video is not from the copyright holder. Abzeronow (talk) 21:56, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- Should I nominate File:LiQWYD - Night Out.wav for deletion then? ShadyMedic (talk) 22:48, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- It may be for the best if it is. You uploaded it in good faith, but it may not have the license it says it does. Abzeronow (talk) 23:31, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

- I would like to apply a deletion notice in bulk to a category of images that I am appealing to be removed due to incorrect copyright status - Category:Images_from_Auckland_Museum_marked_with_cultural_permissions as per my request at Commons:Deletion_requests/Category:Images_from_Auckland_Museum_marked_with_cultural_permissions. There are ~2500 images requiring this notice as per the deletion request requirements, and OpenRefine seems untenable as a batch editing option as the reconciliation service currently has a bug that has stopped me from doing any editing to that category. Of course, if there is an alternative to AutoWikiBrowser I would be happy to hear it - anything is better than copy and pasting 2500 times! Thank you. Dactylantha (talk) 01:47, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

- Category:US National Archives series: "Airscapes" of American and Foreign Areas contains ~10,000 images which have "1917 – 1964" as date=* in their information template - only the general range the images were made in. I would like to change this to the exact date of the image. The exact dates are almost always part of the scanned image. Also, many images are tagged with author=unknown, but the name of the author is stated on the scan. AWB would be perfect for this task. Thank you. TheImaCow (talk) 21:02, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

- I would like to apply for the Filemover right to rename file errors in tracks. I have just over 700 contributions, however that is due to greatly increase in the near future because I am attempting to recolor tropical cyclone tracks. I have made around ten file move requests as of the time of this request. Thank you. 2003 LN6 (talk) 17:57, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- @2003 LN6: Has there been a discussion about these moves and recolors to determine a consensus for them? If so can you please point us towards it? Thanks, The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 09:16, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- New tracks need new files, under the name "path". I am attempting to synchronize the storm names in each basin, specifically with the depression numbers. For example, a modern North Indian storm would be named under "File:BOB01 2014 track.png", while an earlier North Indian storm would be named "File:01-B 1964 track.png". However, the older filenames do not correspond with the Wikipedia designations due to it being by sub-basin instead of by the entire basin. The original color change discussions can be found here. In addition, there are major inconsistencies within the storm names themselves; for example: File:1-L 1988 track.png and File:03-L 1974 track.png. The current format uses the second example, note the leading 0. 2003LN6 17:00, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

- I would both like to be able to fix the typos in the files I uploaded myself from now on, and fix problems in filenames I encounter when geolocating and categorizing existing files. I would assume among my >11000 contributions there are enough "non botlike" ones to count. Thank you. Windharp (talk) 10:30, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose I've only seen you request 1 filemove in your last ~5000 or so contributions; simple requests like those don't require FM perms. --SHB2000 (talk) 08:36, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you. Windharp (talk) 08:45, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- (The Squirrels have been faster, posting anyway since I already wrote the reply) I usually ask Filemovers directly for fixing my own typos, and I simply don't like to interrupt my work during geolocating / categorizing for the quite cumbersome process to request renaming. Windharp (talk) 08:45, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, the keyword in the guideline above that the opposer missed is or. You've been on the project for over a decade with no issues I could spot, so the fact that you haven't made a large number of rename requests isn't an issue. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 08:47, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

Mosbatho (remove right)[edit]
- Mosbatho (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information)
- Please remove the file renaming right from the above account following the user's incorrect application of our file renaming policy. Discussions at village pump and user's talk page didn't help.
- At first, it seemed an issue trivial to address, but instead of solving it in a straightforward manner, the user leaves it to the requestor to justify (who restates reasons already given when I noticed the rename running across Wikipedia) and insists on it being correct. The user was given ample time to fix it. I conclude he'd do the same again and generate more stuff for others to fix. Enhancing999 (talk) 10:38, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- That is wrong. It was not an obvious breach of the rules. The file move suggested by Mpns was warranted with respect to the given criteria. "Solving it in a straightforward manner" would mean to follow User:Enhancing999 opinion exclusively. Due to the discussion I now follow the opinion that the initial file name would be better and I now support the old name instead of the recent one. Msb (talk) 15:10, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose This is not the place to request a removal of rights; if there is a case of abuse, bring it up on COM:ANU, not here. --SHB2000 (talk) 08:33, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
