Hello, Harrias!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Re: Personality rights warning[edit]

Hi, I think you have misunderstood the intent of that warning. There is nothing wrong with the hosting of File:Max waller.jpg on this server. I have explained more clearly the purpose of that warning at File talk:Max waller.jpg#Response to personality rights warning. Jappalang (talk) 08:57, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perspective[edit]

Please see: Commons:Image guidelines, and "distortions" row in a table on this page. You can correct it using Gimp, Photoshop, or hugin. --sfu (talk) 16:36, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And you need to correct locations. Now it's showing some place in Belgium, because of taking no sign insteed of "-" in localization template. --sfu (talk) 16:42, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but is the tower really tilted so much? I's shure it's just straight. In your picture it doesn't look natural. I agree this is was camera gives, but it's not close to what human's eye see. I will not do the correction because in my opinion there is another problem: the lighing isn't good enough. I don't quite understand why correcting perspective is "changing things to the impossible". It's just normal thing most photgraphers do, and was doing even before computers (which was much harder to do I suppose). You can see old paintings in my page - all with straight walls. Personaly I think cinema&tv spoiled ower look and now tilted walls looks normal to people. --sfu (talk) 22:10, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Headley_head_and_shoulders.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Oh, how I really love copyright law... Looks like these files are not actually PD-US, and so I thought I'd get to them before anyone else did! --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:35, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WLM doodle poll[edit]

Hi, unfortunately your response on the Doodle poll was removed by a spammer after the link to the poll became public. If you could respond again on the poll, that would be appreciated. Sorry about the inconvenience. -- Katie Chan (WMUK) (talk) 09:56, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please visit the updated WLM page, at Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in the United Kingdom. You may want to move your name to an appropriate category. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:42, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WLM organization in the UK[edit]

Thanks for indicating your interest in this. I'd like to get some proper teams in place now, so we can decide who will be doing what, and I wonder if you could go to Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in the United Kingdom/People and move your signature to the correct heading? Many thanks, --MichaelMaggs (talk) 14:55, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013! Please help with this survey.

Dear Harrias,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2013, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again a few minutes of your time.

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 365,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.

Kind regards,

the Wiki Loves Monuments team

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in the UK. We'd be delighted if you would do so again this year and help record our local built environment for future generations.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments UK website. Or, if you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. This year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.

Many thanks for your help once more! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:35, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Image formats[edit]

Hi, thank you for uploading some images to Commons. Here's a tip: Use the right image format for the kind of image. As a general rule, this is JPEG for photographs, and PNG for most other kinds of images. Using the wrong format can bloat the file size and/or degrade the quality of the image. Most modern graphics applications will give you the choice between these formats among others. See also Commons:File types#Images. Good luck. Smjg (talk) 08:09, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you created the file File:First Punic War 237 BC en.svg two years ago. I don't know if you noticed, but the labels for Sardinia and Corsica are below the map and thus obscured. Do you think you can fix it? Cléééston (talk) 04:00, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
