User talk:Kelson
Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more Information, have a look at Commons:Licensing, Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 16:24, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
Rename Two Files[edit]
Could you rename these two files:
"Julia exp(z3) - 0.59.png" to "Julia exp(z3) - 0.621.png"
"Julia exp(z3) - 0.65.png" to "Julia exp(z3) - 0.59.png"
Thanks!
Photo avec bordure et information meta[edit]
Salut !
Encore bravo. Kelson 09:09, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
stp, dis-moi, poukoi tu as donné (par exxample) Jules Favre à la categorie People? Schaengel89 @me 08:44, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Schaengel89 @me 17:56, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Oui. Kelson 19:02, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Merci d'avoir téléchargé Image:Jeremy bentham.jpg.
Merci.

Image:Marieantoinette.jpg listed for deletion[edit]
Image deletion warning | Image:Marieantoinette.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

License tag integration[edit]
Hello. You've been around a lot longer than I, but I reverted your change to Image:Sitta europaea wildlife 3.jpg anyway. The discussion at Template talk:Information#Copyright tags in permission field suggests that copyright templates should not be included in the {{Information}} template. I think it's rather important for us to use a standard layout on description pages, especially on featured file or files of the day. What do you think? ~MDD4696 17:58, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Your created gallery pages[edit]
Thanks for creating so many gallery pages of people. Please, categorize this pages, it will help other users to find them. Thank you. --GeorgHH 20:54, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Kelson 21:56, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Palestrina.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Palestrina.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Galleries[edit]
Hello Kelson, when creating a gallery (e.g. Bung Hatta or Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès), please add it to appropriate categories. It will help to find the galleries. Thank you. --GeorgHH 21:11, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Georg, That is the second time you warn ne on this topic. After the last warning, I had have made efforts to do it correctly but relatively fast have had a conflict with an other contributor. In fact, I feel the category politics inadapted, incomplete. My opinion is that categories not very essential are : I never use them for example. So, I have decided not doing anything with categories, to keep my tranquility. Kelson 09:15, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Bonjour Kelson,

Hi, I notice to had submitted liv tyler image [[1]] for delete, but as you can see the image is under CC license at flicker site. Why do you think there is a problem? Assafn 14:37, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- We don't have more informations about the photo. : the date, the location. Liv Tyler has a costume like in LOTR. I think this picture is extracted from a DVD or something like that. Another point : the quality is very good, but the other pictures of this guy are (bad) tourist pictures... He has no idea about the copyirght laws IMHO, that's the reason he has put CC as license. Thanks for uploading Image:Zürich-drapeau.svg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. Gorky image[edit]
I notice you uploaded Image:Maxim Gorky authographed portrait 1.jpg, using a tag that implies you are/were the copyright holder of the image. Given its age, I'm assuming that's not correct, though I'd hate to see such a nice image of Gorky deleted, so I'm not going to list it anywhere - but please update the tag so that nobody else gets it into their head to try and delete it.

Thanks for uploading Image:Tombeau_de_Bruckner.jpg.
If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (Sorry, I do not see any use in such "gallery") --WeHaWoe 18:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Kindly stop removing the deletion notice from this gallery; doing so won't stop the deletion process, and will only make the gallery more likely to be deleted. Your "reason" for the latest removal, that the rest of us "are not allowed to ask for remove" of your files, is sheer wishful thinking; if it were true, there wouldn't be a deletion process (or the tags for it) in the first place.
It is you who are not allowed to remove the deletion tag (that will be done when the debate is closed), not us who are not allowed to apply it. -- Korax1214 00:53, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Once again you try to sabotage the deletion process for this gallery by removing the tag (what part of "Do not remove this tag until the deletion request is closed" are you having so much trouble understanding?), and since such a change is forbidden by Wikimedia policy, it is clearly not a "minor" change as you mislabel it every time you make it.
If you want this gallery not to be deleted, you need to go about this properly, the Wikimedia way, by joining in the debate and giving us good reason(s) why this gallery should not be deleted; "I will not accept the suppression[sic] of this gallery" (in more neutral language, "I don't want it deleted") isn't a reason, much less a good one. At least one other user disagrees with your assertion that "Currently, this gallery, is the best way to browse images of Josef Pröll" (hence the deletion debate); this assertion could I suppose be a good reason, but your behavior is undermining this stance by giving a bad impression.
And apart from your part of it, the deletion debate is proceeding in the proper Wikimedia manner (or "based on a rule elaborated by the community" to use your own phrase).
I think you should spend a bit of time studying Commons' policies, and the pages detailing what it is and is not. -- Korax1214 07:18, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, as long as your deletion request is not based on a concrete policy, I do not have to discuss anything. If your decision is based on one please give me a link to this policy and I will accept the fact that there is something to discuss, otherone I wont discuss, I have created hundreds of gallery based on the policies (it is allowed), I will not start to discuss the deletion of them only because someone, with an opinion based on nothing (no policy), ask for removing pages. I keep the your banner, but please give me on which policy your opinion is based. RegardsKelson 09:16, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

File tagging File:Engelbartmice.jpg[edit]
This media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Engelbartmice.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Engelbartmice.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]
Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.
The images we would like you to check are:

File:Didelphis_marsupialis.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Request for feedback on my GSoC'14 proposal[edit]
Hi Kelson,
I am planning to work on the project titled "Tools for mass migration of legacy translated wiki content" this summer under Google Summer of Code. I have drafted a proposal for the same over the past few weeks. This project is going to help the translation adminstrators like you in a great way, as it would completely automate the tedious manual task of preparing a page for translation and then importing the translations into the Translate extension. You can check the proposal page for detailed information on how I plan to accomplish this.
As you would be an end user of this tool, it would be great if you could go through the proposal and provide feedback/suggestions. Your feedback would definitely help me improve the proposal as well help in creating an even better tool. You can do the same on the discussion page of the proposal or reply here, whichever is convenient for you. I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you!
P.S: I need to submit the proposal to Google by March 19, 2014.

This media may be deleted. |
I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Congratulations on becoming a user of the GLAMwiki Toolset. You can find some frequently asked questions and helpful links for using the tool at GLAMwiki Toolset. As your first step, please add yourself to the list of users at GWToolset users and follow the good practice of creating pages explaining your new projects, as these can help create a focus for our wider community of volunteers. A standard place to set up a project page is at Batch uploading, though long term GLAM programmes may fall under GLAM. To discuss the tool with fellow users, please join the email list GLAMtools or try chatting at #wikimedia-commons webchat. SteinsplitterBot (talk) 11:24, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

- What about the creator of all the icons, and also all de developers of the Kiwix UI and also the creator of the multiple font, the creator of the logo? Should I put them all there? Kelson (talk) 08:13, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- I did it myself this time. You omitted compulsory attribution no less than 4 times. I hold your callousness in contempt. --Vera (talk) 18:57, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- Please answer my questions? Why should I give attribution to only part of the pictures? Kelson (talk) 20:12, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- The icons in the software used fall under de GPL license if that software has such a license. No way of knowing that if you mark the works as your own works, when they're not. --Vera (talk) 22:37, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
- Software incorporates third part content in the same manner than Wikipedia articles incorporate third part font/picture/... Icons are not the result of my work like other parts of this screenshot. Their license is free, but it does not have to be GPL and this does not avoid to credits their respective authors... if I follow your logic. In addition, this software (Kiwix) is not my property, but the respective property of all developers which have work on its code. For this reason, I re-itare my question: why should I furnish an important identification work to credit the authors of the article underlying thumbnail and not for the rest? Where is the limit to the craziness? Which guaranty do I have that someone will not come tomorrow with additional requirements? Kelson (talk) 15:28, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Appalachian Trail.jpg[edit]
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Appalachian Trail.jpg.
Thank you. |

- Both of these files clearly indicate that (1) I'm the author (2) the license. What do you want more? Please do not threat me if this is only a template problem (versus an information one). Fix it! Kelson (talk) 18:29, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Expiry of GWToolset user group memberships[edit]

File:Friedrich V. von der Pfalz bis.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation.

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019[edit]
Bonjour,
Important message for file movers[edit]
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Image:Parotia carolae by Bowdler Sharpe.jpg[edit]
Kelson (talk) 15:21, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Science Competition 2021 in Switzerland[edit]
Dear uploader of Wiki Loves Earth in Switzerland and Wiki Loves Monuments in Switzerland, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now open in your country until December, 15th.
If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. There are different categories that can be used (you might therefore have something already interesting in your archive). Prizes can be allocated for the 1st and 2nd positions in every category.
If you are an expert user, we remind you that the images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface by simply adding the national category.
If you take part, please consider improving the description in English of your files, since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them at the following step. World finalists will be finalized after March 2022.
Sorry for bothering you and have a nice wiki.
