Flickr reviewing[edit]
Hello Mahanga, and thank you for your application to be a flickr reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. Congratulations! Please see Commons:Flickr images if you haven't done so already, and the backlogs at Category:Flickr images needing human review and Category:Flickr review needed. A helpful script for easy-tagging flickr images is at importScript('User:Patstuart/Flickrreview.js'); (which you can add to your monobook.js), and you can add {{User reviewer}} or {{User trusted}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your work on Commons! Pmlineditor ∞ 15:39, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Video categories[edit]
It would make more sense to add the categories to the parent categories, instead of also to each of the individual applicable files within those categories. Cirt (talk) 08:25, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
- For example, instead of adding Category:Films and television videos to the page File:2009 Razzies Worst Actress - Paris Hilton.ogv, you could instead add it to its parent category, Category:Video from 29th Golden Raspberry Awards. Would make things much easier. Can you please go ahead and make those fixes? Thank you, Cirt (talk) 08:28, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
- Got it. mahanga (talk) 15:25, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
At File:Heather Higginbottom Reacts to the Citizen's Briefing Book.ogv, again, that cat is already in the parent cat.... Cirt (talk) 01:56, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- Ok. mahanga (talk) 06:02, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! :) Cirt (talk) 21:48, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Dallas Cowboys photos[edit]
Got new pics up for Romo, Ogletree and Jenkins on their pages. Will work on the roster more this weekend. Great list so this could be addressed properly! 75.27.227.159 18:42, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Dallas Cowboys Vandalism - User: Jongb35[edit]
I was able to revert all of this guys recent advertisement vandalism, however he created a page Dallas Cowboys Times that he is claiming is the official blog of the Dallas Cowboys. Can something be done about this please? It is nothing more than an advertisement. I put a vandalism warning on his user talk page "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Jongb35" and commented about the new site, but I have limited knowledge about bringing the hammer down on someone! Any help is appreciated. 71.158.218.17 12:48, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

File mover[edit]
The functionality of the template {{Rename}} has recently changed. You might need to clear your cache to see the changes. If successful you should then be able to use the new "Quick adding" link in the template to instruct CommonsDelinker to replace the old name with the new name in all wikis. Please use that every time you rename a file. If further questions arise, feel free to write on my talk page --DieBuche (talk) 10:00, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

use of a file[edit]
Hello,
Working on a small video about life under the sea, I would like to use your video "Sea_Nettle_("Chrysaora_Fuscescens"),_Monterey_Bay_Aquarium.ogv".
Would you allow me to do it?
Thanks for your answer,
Alice. ferrealice@yahoo.fr
- Firstly, I did not record the video but merely uploaded it. As long as you give credit to the author ([1]) in your video, you may use the video. This applies to all videos of Commons. As long as you follow the licensing requirements, you don't have to ask permission. Mahanga (Talk) 21:29, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Would you mind if I uploaded an updated version above your file? --McZusatz (talk) 14:04, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- No need to ask. Please do. But do we still want to push Firefogg? I think Miro is a better option since it converts to the better WebM format (and also to Ogg video) and doesn't require Firefox. I've been meaning of redoing the Commons:Video and Help:Converting video pages but I'm lacking time, unfortunately. It's currently far too technical. Mahanga (Talk) 15:30, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- Found this good tutorial on YouTube. We can link to it. Mahanga (Talk) 16:00, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- Miro does not support quality settings but highest quality is encouraged now that TMH can convert a video to low bandwidth files. You may noticed I already did some changes to both pages but now I am not sure how we can make things easier. (Keep in mind there are plenty of users who work with OSes other that Windows.) --McZusatz (talk) 16:55, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, I see now, that's some great cleanup. It was badly needed after Wikimedia's recent update. Thank you for that. Just a note, Miro supports WebM HD (whatever that means). Miro is available on Win and Mac platforms, which comprise ~97% of Wikimedia's non-mobile traffic. We should focus on this group. For Linux, maybe there's Arista? I haven't used Linux is some time. We should figure out who we are targeting: novices who don't know anything about resolution, bitrate (typical smartphone user) in which case Miro is perfect. Then there's advanced users with more knowledge of the technical details (they can use Firefogg or some other app). Honestly, even though I know some technical details, I'll still be using Miro WebM HD since I don't want to mess with the conversion too much. Mahanga (Talk) 17:42, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Could you open a bug in bugzill for better visibility on firefogg auto conversion ? It may just be a matter of updating a configuration file. Mdale (talk) 18:22, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
Use of image on internet site[edit]
Hello,
I would like to use your image as the main header for a customer event we (Siemens) are hosting at the stadium. There is a possibility that others within Marketing would like to use it in a general manner for marketing collateral. We are not looking to profit from use of this image.
Please let me know if there is anything you need in order to provide consent.
Thank you. Velvet Hayes velvet.hayes@siemens.com

Video contest[edit]
Hi Mahanga! I'm one of the organizers of the video contest Videos für Wikipedia-Artikel in the German Wikipedia which aims at including more videos into Wikipedia articles. The topic of our contest is "Digital Society". I discovered that your video of a Peterbilt application on Microsoft Surface is included in the German article called Tabletop Groupware. Therefor I want to invite you to participate with this video in the contest. The procedure is very easy: You would just have to add the template {{Video für Wikipedia-Artikel 2014}}. Obviously, if you have other video material consistent with the topic "Digital Society", you are wellcome to participate with it as well. --NSm (VWA) (talk)
OTRS permissions queues[edit]
Hello Mahanga. You are receiving this message as a license reviewer. As you know, OTRS processes a large amount of tickets relating to image releases (called "permissions"). As a license reviewer, you may have the skills necessary to contribute to this team. If you are interested in learning more about OTRS or to volunteer please visit Meta-Wiki. Tell your friends! Thank you. Rjd0060 18:46, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Mahanga. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Mahanga~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Inquiry of permission of re-using a figure in our book[edit]
Dear Mahanga,
This is Dr. Jia He. I'm sending this message to inquire your permission of re-using one of your photos as Figure 1.6(e) in our forthcoming book. The photo is about AT&T Stadium, and the link to that photo is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cowboys_stadium.JPG
If you don't mind, could you please allow me to re-use this photo in our book of "Smart Civil Structures"? The source of this figure will be certainly cited in a proper way. Thanks very much for your kind help and support. Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes, — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 158.132.127.192 (talk) 14:53, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Jia, you may use the photo. You don't require my consent as the file is licensed under the Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license. Thank you! --Mahanga (Talk) 21:45, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Important message for file movers[edit]
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
